Graphic designers utilize art to portray a certain message through the mediums of print, television, internet or film. They also create visual displays for marketing purposes such as signs or logos for businesses and can design interactive multimedia for clients. Education and Salary: A bachelor’s degree in graphic design or certification from an art program is required for most graphic design positions. A liberal arts education is also looked highly upon as it provides an enriched background of art history, cultural studies, marketing and writing. The key is learning the technical requirements needed to move up the ladder in the graphic design industry. To begin, a person might need to submit sketches in order to be admitted into a design school programs. The average salary ranges from $30,000 to $53,000 a year; the highest paid designers can earn over $70,000, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Training Qualifications: Creative, problem solving and communication skills are needed in this line of work.
